Because the bathroom window is such an important element, it deserves the same attention as the rest of the room when making updates or remodeling. Although you do not necessarily need to make everything match, you do want to make sure the bathroom window curtains coordinate with the rest of the room’s décor. The process to accomplish this is not difficult but there are tips that can make things go smoother and to help you make the right choices so when the new bathroom window curtains are hung, the room would look amazing.

For one thing, although there is no written rule that long curtains, those going all the way to the floor, cannot be used in a bathroom but in most cases, shorter curtains are used. The choice depends on the look you want to achieve, as well as how much time and effort you want to put into keeping the curtains clean. Since water can get on the floor after a bath or shower, and powder and other things on the floor, most people find shorter curtains are much easier to manage but it is a personal choice.

Without doubt, decorating bathroom is a fun endeavor. You may already have some specific ideas in mind but if not, we recommend you spend a little time online or looking at magazines so when ready to start, you know the direction to take for buying accessories and bathroom window curtains. The great thing is that because the bathroom is now considered a main room in the home, you can choose literally anything wanted whether sophisticated, whimsical, classic, transitional, and so on. However, having ideas will certainly make the process less complicated.

You will quickly discover you have far more colors, materials, patterns, and textures to choose from than even a few years before. In addition, many bathroom window curtains on the market today are either organic or made from recycled materials in support of a healthy environment. Because the range of options is so broad, the biggest problem you will likely face is narrowing your choice down to just one style. However, unless you plan on decorating your bathroom with whimsy or being eclectic, you will need to stick to one main color and/or pattern.

For starters, if you want to use several patterns in the bathroom, make sure the background color is the same. In other words, if you decided to go with a blue, yellow, and white bathroom, you could choose a shower curtain with one pattern and curtains with another but make sure the background color is either blue, yellow, or white. Additionally, the color should be the same hue. If you go this route, we recommend that the curtains have the larger pattern and the shower curtain a small pattern so they complement each other rather than compete.

Another recommendation when choosing bathroom window curtains to coordinate with the rest of the room is to play with textures if you plan to stick with a single color. In this case, the texture could be raised dots, etching, or weaving. Because the colors would be a single color, you have more flexibility in mixing and matching textures. Therefore, your curtains could have swirls and the shower curtain straight lines. The great thing about textures fabric used for bathroom curtains is that there are so many unique choices.

Finally, consider patterns, which are divided into four groups to include floral, pictorial, motif, and geometric. Floral bathroom curtains are the most common so the selection is much greater. Typically, you want small to medium size flowers, adding a softer look to the room although if the bathroom was large and you liked a more dramatic appearance, larger floral curtains would work. Next, pictorial patterns can create a nice visual effect but make sure the design goes with the era or theme of the room. For instance, if you chose curtains with prints of the Eiffel Tower and/or Leaning Tower of Pisa, then the rest of the bathroom should have an Italian look and feel in the various accessories and colors chosen.

For curtains with a motif, which would include abstract images as well, again depending on the specific motif, the rest of the bathroom décor should coordinate. If the motif were a waterfall, then blue and green colors would work best. Finally, geometric shapes are often used in contemporary rooms. Based on the design, the room could be created with a more sophisticated look or something whimsical so regardless of the bathroom window curtains purchased, keep other items in the bathroom on the same scale.

Although it might seem as if any fabric would do for bathroom window curtains and while you do have a good selection, the truth is that some material is simply better and for a number of reasons. For one thing, this room of the house has a significant amount of moisture and humidity so fabric should be easy to clean. In other words, we suggest you avoid any type of fabric that would have to be dry cleaned, instead going with something that you could machine wash and preferably fabric that would come out of the dryer without wrinkles. Now, there are some fabrics for the bathroom that could also be hand washed but because of the extra time and effort involved, it would be best to stick with those that can be machine washed.

Another consideration specific to fabric used to make bathroom window curtains has to do with privacy. Obviously, windows of the bathroom should be covered to keep people from seeing in. Even if your bathroom window were small, perhaps the room has just one window, or neighbors are a distance away, you would still need fabric that could block the outside world if choosing bathroom window curtains only. However, if you wanted to use shutters, blinds, or shades, then choose thicker fabric, possibly something with a darkening panel.

Light is a common problem in most bathrooms so as you look at various possibilities of fabric when shopping for bathroom window curtains, it would be important to consider the amount of light you want or need. Again, if the window is small or the room has just one, then you probably have a problem of low natural light. In this case, the curtains should be made of a lighter fabric. It would also be helpful to choose a light color. Now, if the bathroom has a large window or the room features more than one, you would be able to expand options for the fabric of which the curtains were made.

We wanted to provide you with a few specific options of fabric for bathroom window curtains, along with some of the benefits they provide.

• Cotton – This fabric actually has a number of advantages over other fabrics. For instance, cotton comes in thousands of colors, patterns, and styles so regardless of the look or decorum of the bathroom, you would have a multitude of choices. Additionally, cotton is very affordable so if on a budget, you would have no problem finding an array of possibilities when buying new curtains or even making them,

• Polyester Blends – Similar to cotton, this type of fabric comes in a huge selection and it is cost efficient. However, one of the primary benefits of choosing polyester blend fabric for bathroom window curtains is that this particular fabric is not only machine washable but it does not wrinkle. With this, you could wash the curtains and hang them right back up straight out of the dryer.

• Hemp and Other Natural Fabrics – If you support the “green movement” and prefer a more organic fabric for your bathroom window curtains, hemp would be a good consideration. Typically, material such as this does best in rooms with low moisture levels so if you need to window treatments for a guest bathroom, then hemp would actually be ideal.

• Linen – Finally, linen can be a great fabric for the bathroom although because it is more expensive than some of the other options and it has a richer look, most people go with linen when wanting to achieve more luxurious aesthetics. One advantage of linen is that the fabric is heavy, which can be an energy efficient solution.

Have you ever spent the night in a hotel or on a cruise ship and woken up in pure darkness thinking that it was still the middle of the night? That’s a nice feeling isn’t it? Transfer that same feeling to your bathroom. The only bad thing about going into a totally dark bathroom first thing in the morning is trying to wake up. But simply letting the light in so you can wake your sleepy head can be just as bad because if the light can come in then those prying eyes can as well. Well, I’ve got the answer to your light pollution and peeping Tom problems for all of those worried about lighting issues and someone looking in and seeing something that only certain people should: blackout blinds. These bllinds basically block any light from entering or exiting a window. Let’s take a look at a couple of the different styles of these blinds that you can pick up online or in your local department stores.

Blackout Roller Blinds
Unlike regular blinds that have little plastic, wooden, or metal slides that are rolled up and down to open or close them, blackout roller blinds sit rolled up in a cylinder at the top of the window. To let them down you simply grab the bottom of the fabric and pull open to the desired length. Not only that they are super easy to install and due to the privacy features of them make an excellent choice for a bathroom window. They come in a super wide array of fabrics and patterns and can blend in with any decor you may have in your bathroom giving it a complete look. Best part of these blinds are that most places that sell them online will give you a sample of the fabric for simply just asking. This will give you the ability to see exactly what it’s going to look like.

Blackout Roman Blinds
Blackout Roman blinds tend to be a step up over the aforementioned. With a much more decorative appeal, they tend to look more like curtains only with the ease of use that you would normally find on window blinds being able to work them with the standard pulley system. These tend to have a better type of fabric in use and much more intricate in it’s operation. They can either lay flat or in overlapping folds that would give the blind a more “hobbled” look. Just like the blinds above, most reputable companies online will allow you to order samples to get that just right feel that you are going for.

Blackout Vertical Blinds
If you have a bathroom where these can become dirtier easier, say like a guest or kids bathroom. You might want to take a look into blackout vertical blinds as an alternative to curtains. These blinds are durable and one of the easiest to clean on the market today due to the large panels that run vertically instead of horizontally. Their track systems are generally better than other blinds as they are manufactured with much more reliable, heavy-duty parts due to the wear and tear they undergo through use. And believe it or not, they are not that expensive. You can get them in many different styles ranging from vinyl to fabrics to fauxwoods.

If you’re not interested in fluffy window treatments that look like bouquets of flowers have exploded all over your windows and just want a practical set of blinds that will keep you in the dark during any time of the day and safe from prying eyes, blackout window blinds are the right blinds for you. You won’t have to see daylight ever again if you don’t want to and nobody can see you in your birthday suit.
