Most people never think of using stencils to dress up basic curtains but the results are incredible.  This is a great way to end up with customized curtains that are exactly what you want but while spending very little money.  Of course, there are many other ways to enhance the appearance of bathroom curtains but we wanted to show you just how great stencils are in giving you a one-of-a-kind look.

Although there are multiple ways to accomplish this, we suggest you start by purchasing a pair of quality bathroom curtains.  For this, you could choose white, off-white, yellow, sage green, sky blue, and other colors but the key is to buy fabric without any texture and preferably curtains made of cotton or a cotton and polyester blend.  That way, the stencils will stick better and stand out to make a lasting impression.

Of course, make sure you take proper measurements of the bathroom window first and then begin shopping.  You will also need to pick out hardware that compliments the curtains but also the stencils and the overall room decorum.  Once you have these purchases done, the fun begins as you shop for stencils to use.  The best place is any hobby store where you will find stencils of various sizes, styles, and designs.  Even quality stencils of medium size typically cost less than $5, making this a great cost efficient solution.

Along with the stencil or stencils, you would need craft paint.  Make sure to purchase paint specifically designed for stenciling but also fabric.  The reason is that stencil paint would absorb into the fabric of the bathroom curtains, becoming a part of the structure.  Because of this, once you finish stenciling the curtains you could machine wash them without the colors fading or the paint dissolving.  Therefore, you end up with beautiful and unique bathroom curtains that will last a long time.

In addition to the stencils and paint, you need special stencil brushes.  Of all expenses, these are probably the most but even then, they are not too costly.  These brushes have a blunt head since the paint is actually dabbed on inside the stencil.  The types of stencil brushes you buy would depend on the look you want to achieve.  If you plan to completely fill in the stencil design on the curtains then you need a wide brush but if you will only be dabbing around the edges or painting on very small stencil designs, then a smaller brush would work.  Additionally, if you will be using multiple colors, it would be best to buy one stencil brush for each color.

With the supplies in hand, the new bathroom curtains would be laid out flat, the stencil of choice taped on, and then the painting started.  To make sure you do not get any paint bleed when moving the stencil from one location on the curtains to another, have wipes handy, removing the paint before taping it back on the curtains.  Once all the stencils have been painted, you need to allow the curtains time to dry after which time they could be hung.  For ideas, you can search the internet or simply come up with a design of your own.

Toile is actually an older fabric but one that has gained tremendous popularity in recent years.  When first developed in France in 1760, it was received with rave reviews but at that time, it was only available in a few shades, most commonly black and white.  While traditional shades are still popular, you can now find virtually any shade wanted, as well as modifications to the actual toile design.  Because of this, toile bathroom curtains make an excellent choice in that they add sophistication regardless of the style of the room.

For example, if you wanted a contemporary bathroom but one that was still elegant, red and white toile bathroom curtains would look gorgeous.  If you wanted to create a more traditional French look, again keeping with the elegant decorum, then you could go with black and white.  Even a country style bathroom would benefit from toile since colors come in yellow, green, blue, and gray.  With the right accessories, the room would be stunning upon completion.  Now, because toile bathroom curtains are somewhat “busy”, you want to be careful when choosing other items for the bathroom.

Going with the contemporary style bathroom, along with hanging new red and white toile curtains, you could choose a luxurious textured shower curtain with a small amount of red trim, choose solid white or solid red rugs, and then add silk flowers of red, white, black, with one other color for a nice splash.  You can look online to get hundreds of ideas for colors and color combination’s specific to using toile bathroom window curtains or even browse through decorating books.  The possibilities are limited only by your creation and the outcome would be a bathroom that is elegant just as you wanted.

One last note is that some people think toile curtains are expensive.  While there are some of the high-end brands that are, you can find a nice selection of top brands that are not expensive.  The key is to shop around so you can see not only the various options for toile curtains but also find those sold in your price range.

The key to beautiful bathroom curtains starts with correct measurements.  Unfortunately, one of the most common mistakes is people not measuring right and then purchasing or making curtains that once hung look horrible.  Even being off one-half inch can make a big difference in your new curtains looking professionally hung or sloppy.  Once you obtain the appropriate measurements, you would then have the information needed to buy curtains that will fit perfectly.  The outcome is a gorgeous look that helps transform the appearance of the entire room.

Before anything, get a piece of paper, pencil, and measuring tape.  Keep in mind that you want a flexible tape opposed to a rule or yardstick.  If wanted, you can print out an actual measuring guide or simply write down exact numbers as you take them.  It is also important that you measure all the windows in the bathroom.  Even if they look to be the same size or are supposed to be the same size, they could be off enough to matter.

Then, make sure the measurements are for the look wanted.  In other words, if you want to install the brackets on the inside of the frame then you would measure on the inside but if you wanted the brackets to be installed on the outside of the frame, the measurements would need to be taken on the outside.  You also want to round the measurements taken to the nearest 1/8-inch, always rounding up, not down.  Following these guidelines, the next step is to get the numbers.

Now, if you plan to install the brackets on the inside of the frame, you could measure using the length on the inside of the casement or if preferred, the outside of the casement, as well as from the top of the casement to the desire length, whether short or long.  If you want to install panels, it would be important to know they come in lengths from 45 to 95 inches although 84 inches is considered standard.  However, if you want shorter curtains, the option that usually looks best in bathroom, measure to just below the bottom frame.  For width, measurements would be taken from within the window frame.

If you prefer to install the brackets on the outside of the frame, then you would still take the measurements from the top of the frame to the desired length, again remembering to round up to the nearest 1/8-inch.  However, in this case the measurements for width would be taken from the outside of the bathroom window frame.  By using measurements for your new bathroom window curtains on the inside of the frame, once the curtains are hung, the frame would show whereas using measurements on the outside, the bathroom curtains would hide the frame.  One other important note is that even if you think you got the numbers right for each bathroom window, we strongly suggest you take them three times to be 100% certain.

Just a few other things to consider is that if you decide to hang long bathroom curtains, the bottom of the panels should be one-inch off the floor.  In addition, be sure short or long curtain panels are two to three times the actual width measurement.  In other words, if the window measured 32 inches, you need to buy curtains that are 64 to 96 inches wide, which is what provide enough material to close the curtains but then when open, have beautiful pleating.  Finally, if the window is narrow, you can create a wider look simply by hanging the curtain hardware three to four inches beyond the frame so ultimately more curtain material would be spread over the window area.

Are you tired of your current bathroom, eager to make a change but not sure what to do?  Something as simple as new bathroom window curtains can help you transform a boring and drab bathroom into anything you want.  In this article, we have provided a couple of examples of what new curtains can do.  However, remember there are literally hundreds of opportunities but hopefully, these examples will inspire you to find the look you ultimately want to achieve.

For the first example, you might consider changing an outdated bathroom into your own tropical oasis.  For this, it all comes down to color and texture.  We suggest you choose a sky blue wall paint, shower curtain of light blue, navy blue, cream, and small splashes of yellow, and then bamboo accessories to bring it all together.  For the window, white plantation shutters with light blue sheers over top would be gorgeous while creating an airy feel.  To enhance the look, you could find similar fabric to the shower curtain to add trim or create tie-backs.

Another example would be creating a bathroom with Shabby Chic decorum.  Although Shabby Chic was highly popular in the 1980s, it has once again grown in popularity, known for being charming and comfortable.  In this case, pastel colors are used, primarily greens, blues, and yellows.  If you were to use any bathroom furniture, is should be distressed and medicine cabinets of white metal are ideal.  As far as bathroom window curtains, a thick white or sage green cotton would be recommended.  However, to support the Shabby Chic style, you could choose a nice textured fabric for both curtains and shower curtain.

The transitional style is another great option, which features deep, rich colors.  Remember, there are hundreds of options for each of the styles mentioned but in the case of transition, you might consider a solid brown shower curtain with small geometric designs of yellow and rust.  As far as accessories, copper or brushed nickel would be perfect along with solid brown rugs.  You would also need to bring in items of yellow and rust to pull the colors from the shower curtain.  Then for the curtains, brown with rust blocks would be gorgeous.  This would give the room a more modern look but also provide the richness that comes from the transitional style.

One last example we wanted to provide is traditional.  We recommend you choose a light yellow for the walls, and a deeper yellow for the rugs.  If the bathroom does not already have crown molding, this could be added in solid white, choosing a thickness to coordinate with the ceiling height.  As far as the shower curtain, solid white with yellow trim or white with yellow dots would work and for the new bathroom window curtains, the same deeper yellow used in the rugs.  Then for accessories, you want to pull in greens and lavenders, whether in the form of artwork, flowers, or ceramic vases.

The bottom line is that for bathroom window curtains there are no limitations, even when choosing one of the most popular trends.  As you will see from the information listed below, opportunities are in abundance this year, which makes it exciting and fun to create an entirely different look for the bathroom window.

•    Elegance – Because the bathroom is no longer “just a room”, more and more people are creating an elegant space, one that looks and feels rich and luxurious.  To accommodate this new demand, window bathroom curtains have been created that add class.  To get this look, the first thing is to avoid using long curtains, a mistake that many people make.  In addition, avoid curtains that cover the entire window opting instead for long valances.  One of the top trends is a long pleated, scalloped valance with tassels.  The look is clean, refreshing, and very elegant, especially when going with certain colors to include cream, sage green, and other softer colors.

•    Traditional – A traditional bathroom décor is still very popular but with an updated twist.  In this case, you would choose bathroom window curtains that cover just below the bottom frame but then add a Roman shade or white vinyl mini-blinds.  With a traditional look, you would have more options for color and patterns but the goal would be to keep things relatively simple.

•    Vibrant and Whimsical – Many people still like themed bathrooms but instead of everything being perfectly matched, you would choose curtains that become the room’s focal point.  In this case, jazzed up curtains against an off-white wall is gorgeous but also fun.  The current trend is to avoid patterns such as fish, seashells, or other themed materials, choosing instead multicolored curtains with geometric shapes.

•    Dots – Polka dots are hot right now, especially for bathroom window curtains and shower curtains.  However, the key is choosing dots of richer colors.  In other words, rather than choose more traditional dots, look for curtains or if making your own curtains, fabric that consists of dots of several colors but those within the same color scheme.  Another option would be choosing curtains of one primary color that features coordinating colors randomly placed.  The nice thing about this trend is that the color of the dots could be pulled into the bathroom in various accessories.  Let us say the primary color of the curtains was brown but the dots were three different shades of green, you could use those three shades for a trashcan, silk flowers, etc.  You could even choose a solid brown shower curtain and then add trim of one of the green colors.

•    Children – We also see a hot trend whereby a children’s bathroom is designed to be appealing to everyone but especially great for the kids.  One example would be curtains with blocks of several different colors, with each block depicting a different silhouette.  For boys, this could be fire trucks, race cars, baseballs, etc.  For girls, the silhouettes could be dolls, teddy bears, ballet shoes, and so on.
